Last week was a roller coaster ride for the varsity. On Tuesday West Allegheny played the Hampton Talbots, a frustrating game with a slow start that ended with a 5-0 shutout loss. Thursday saw a renewed spirit. The team came out determined to erase the taste of the last game. Erase it they did with a solid victory over the Fox Chapel Foxes, 5-3. Austin Young led the way with a goal and 2 assists followed by Bailey Foy, Brendan Rossi and Ryan Rohm all with a goal and an assist. Lorenzo Giacomino put the game out of reach with a goal in the third period. Nest week the team faces Armstrong and Charters Valley.

“Father, Husband, Friend, Hockey Lover – Duane Foy #resteasyDuane”

Duane Foy, 52, of North Fayette, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 22, 2014.  He was born on April 2, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Kenneth W. and Mildred (Markovich) Foy.  He is survived by his Beloved wife of 21 years, Paula.  He was the proud father of two children, Bailey and Sydney. Brother of Patrick K. Foy.  His extended family and friends will miss him as well as his beloved cats, Geno, Crosby and Maxine.

Duane was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan and an unofficial ambassador for the city.  While cheering on the Cavs, Browns, and Indians, Duane also strongly supported the Pittsburgh Penguins from section 218 of the Consol Energy Center.

There was nothing Duane loved more than spending time with his family and friends, especially when it came to youth hockey.  Duane was a hockey coach, manager, and association president over the course of his life.  But those are just titles.  In reality, Duane was a mentor, leader, and an inspiration to all whom he came into contact with.  There was no one more willing to give his time and energy to ensuring the success of anything he touched.  One cannot go into a hockey rink in Western Pennsylvania and not know someone he befriended or inspired.  He will be extremely missed by all including his extended hockey family and his West Allegheny Indians hockey team.  One more lap on the Zamboni, Duane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Duane Foy Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been set up to honor the legacy of Duane and his involvement in youth hockey.  Donations should be made out to the “Duane Foy Memorial Scholarship” and sent to WAHA, P.O. Box 507, Imperial, PA 15126.  The scholarship fund is a 501c3 non-profit organization and your contribution will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
