The West Allegheny Community Nights were a great success. Everyone that attended had a great time, from the kids who were on skates for the first time to the “old timers’ who needed the walkers to stay upright. We want to thank everybody who thought of all the little details that made the night special; Carla, Joe “The Pizza Man”, and Michelle who coordinated the bake sale. The bake sale raised $248.00 for the Duane Foy Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Beth Peternel’s name was drawn for a chance at winning Angelia’s Pizza for a Year. She had to shot a puck for the 3” by 9” target in the middle of the net, from center ice. There was no doubt about it, Beth’s shot was right down the middle and she wins Pizza for a Year. Thanks to Angelia’s for supporting West Allegheny Hockey and Congratulations to Beth.
Beth Peternel makes the shot to win the Pizza for a Year
The varsity won their final game against Moon beating them 3-0. A well-played game that will prepare them for the playoffs. Their first game will be against Greater Latrobe at the Harmarville Bladerunners Monday night at 7:30. A win earns them a second game against Erie Cathedral Prep Tuesday in Erie.
  Good Luck, go WEST A!!!
The West Allegheny Hockey Association would like to personally invite you to our First Annual Community Night on February 27th at the Airport Ice Arena.  That evening, at 6:30pm, the Varsity team will play their last regular season game, against rival Moon Area Tigers, and a community ice skate will be held immediately after the game. We would like it if you and your family were able to attend. Attendance to the hockey game is $3 for adults and $2 for children over twelve.  The community skate following the game is FREE!  Free skate rentals will be available for those who need skates.  Pizza and beverages will also be provided to celebrate then end of a great hockey season.
This is a great opportunity to expose your child to the West Allegheny Hockey Family. It is our hope to grow this organization through community participation. Our West Allegheny Board will be there to answer any questions and to have some fun on the ice. Varsity and JV players will also be at our community days. Please forward this email to anyone that maybe interested.

“Father, Husband, Friend, Hockey Lover – Duane Foy #resteasyDuane”

Duane Foy, 52, of North Fayette, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 22, 2014.  He was born on April 2, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Kenneth W. and Mildred (Markovich) Foy.  He is survived by his Beloved wife of 21 years, Paula.  He was the proud father of two children, Bailey and Sydney. Brother of Patrick K. Foy.  His extended family and friends will miss him as well as his beloved cats, Geno, Crosby and Maxine.

Duane was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan and an unofficial ambassador for the city.  While cheering on the Cavs, Browns, and Indians, Duane also strongly supported the Pittsburgh Penguins from section 218 of the Consol Energy Center.

There was nothing Duane loved more than spending time with his family and friends, especially when it came to youth hockey.  Duane was a hockey coach, manager, and association president over the course of his life.  But those are just titles.  In reality, Duane was a mentor, leader, and an inspiration to all whom he came into contact with.  There was no one more willing to give his time and energy to ensuring the success of anything he touched.  One cannot go into a hockey rink in Western Pennsylvania and not know someone he befriended or inspired.  He will be extremely missed by all including his extended hockey family and his West Allegheny Indians hockey team.  One more lap on the Zamboni, Duane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Duane Foy Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been set up to honor the legacy of Duane and his involvement in youth hockey.  Donations should be made out to the “Duane Foy Memorial Scholarship” and sent to WAHA, P.O. Box 507, Imperial, PA 15126.  The scholarship fund is a 501c3 non-profit organization and your contribution will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
